"GO GIRL GO!" PODCAST - EPISODE 5 PROF. DR. CHRISTIANE FUNKEN
Women have never been as well educated as they are today. And yet many fail to advance in their careers and at some point hit the famous glass ceiling. In this episode, the renowned sociology professor and author (“Sheconomy”) Christiane Funken explains why this is.
Many women have probably experienced this before: you sit in a meeting and present your ideas and thoughts. The reaction of others is cautious. But after a male colleague suggests exactly the same thing, sometimes even word for word, the idea is suddenly celebrated as brilliant by everyone. Now the mental cinema begins: Wait a minute, did that really just happen? He's just stealing my idea like that? And the others don't even notice that this originally came from me? Phew, you have to digest that first.
In the new episode of “GO GIRL GO!”, sociology professor and author (“Sheconomy”) Christiane Funken reveals how you can respond quickly in these moments. Because that's exactly what the conversation is about: Why are the leaders in the business world often still male - and how can women find their way? Why do women hit the famous glass ceiling the further up they go? Are the old boys networks, who bargain for each other's positions, is the problem or to what extent do women sometimes get in each other's way?
"There is still a general suspicion of women in companies. They are not believed to have full productivity and strength and it is assumed that they are more often absent because of the children," says Christiane Funken in the podcast. At the same time, women often have less confidence in themselves than men. "Women tend to be perfectionistic and often find fault with themselves. Men are more ambitious and demanding, and of course achieve more as a result."
But: something is happening. The generational change is in full swing. Women demand more and men don't want to be reduced to just their professional lives. And: Our new networked working world requires flexibility, teamwork and communication. So exactly what women bring with them. Funken is convinced: the future of the world of work is female. “Women just need to recognize their market value!”
So be sure to listen to this inspiring episode female power!
