BEAUTY 1x1 – HOW TO STORE YOUR COSMETICS CORRECTLY
Even as a teenager, I spent hours in the beauty department stocking up on samples, jars and scents - and that hasn't changed to this day! My bathroom cabinet is bursting at the seams and my lipstick collection is definitely museum-worthy. So that I can use these treasures for as long as possible, good storage is crucial. For everyone who feels the same way as me, today I'm going to tell you how to store cosmetics correctly!
I confess: I am a beauty freak! And I think that cosmetic treasures are a bit like food: how they are stored determines their effectiveness and longevity. That's why every tube and jar in the bathroom needs to be properly stowed away - after all, it's our little wellness temple for a few minutes a day that we want to enjoy thoroughly. So how to store properly? I'm telling you this: come to the bathroom with me!
NOURISHING COSMETICS
Cosmetic products like to be dry, dark and cool - so don't put them on the window sill, not on the edge of the bathtub or on the radiator, my dears. Because fluctuating temperatures and UV radiation affect the sensitive ingredients. Especially products with a high water content (e.g. Moisturizers, Body lotions etc.) are then more susceptible to germs and bacteria. The beauty rule of thumb: Your skincare range is in good hands in a closed bathroom cabinet.
CORRECT HANDLING IS KEY
So it's not absolutely necessary to think about unusual storage locations for your cosmetics (my daughters would be very creative - and they already have their noses in my jars all the time anyway). Because correct handling is just as important:
👍🏼 Only use products with clean fingers, otherwise you will quickly transmit germs. Better: gently remove textures in jars with a cosmetic spatula or a fresh Q-tip!
👍🏼 Only open if you can use the product quickly. Not so easy if you want to try out a lot, I know it oh so well 😉 …
👍🏼 ...that's why you should at least always close jars, tubes and bottles carefully...
👍🏼 ... and pay attention to the shelf life: You can reliably see how long it will last after opening by looking at the small PAO (period after opening) jar on the back of your products. If it smells different and has changed color, it's time to part ways.
DECORATIVE COSMETICS
Make-up is also more sensitive to moisture, heat and UV radiation than you might think. Lipstick, mascara and foundation: Creamy textures are best stored dry and at room temperature. Opaque plastic or metal boxes or pretty ones are great Cosmetic bags.
MYTH REFRIGERATOR
Let me dispel this myth for you: Not all beauty products make sense to store in the refrigerator: lipsticks lose their color, powder crumbles and nail polish changes its consistency in constant cold. Too much and constant cold may even damage the emulsions in care products (the fat and water components separate). Unless expressly stated on the packaging, it is sufficient to store your products in a dry and cool place at room temperature. Sweet & simple! What works well, however, is that if you put the eyeliner and eyeliner in the fridge for about 20 minutes before use, the texture becomes harder and the line becomes more precise.
Blush, compact powder and song shadows: Dry products require dry storage. Because the enemy is hot water vapor (keyword: surface mold)! Tip: When you apply a brush used, fewer germs reach it.
MAKEUP TOOLS: BRUSHES
Speaking of which: Not only storage, but also proper cleaning is essential when it comes to beauty tools. Your brushes are best stored in drawers - here they are nicely protected from high humidity and dust in the bathroom. But if you don't want to hide your impressive brush collection, then find a dry place. Suggestion: How about a dressing table in the bedroom? My absolute girl's dream!
Cleaning: Always store the brushes lying down after washing, otherwise the moisture will run down to the shaft. Lip brushes come into contact with the lips - so not only wash them regularly, but also disinfect them!

MAKEUP TOOLS: SPONGES AND BRUSHES
Sponges also want it dry - but at the same time they should be given air to dry after use. My tip for you: Simply place it on a glass bowl in the bathroom cabinet! Cleaning: Sponge It is best to wash it out after each use. And also clean your hair and facial brushes regularly. Under running, warm water and with a mild shampoo.
BEAUTY SPRING CLEANING
I hope I was able to give you a tip or two today – or to encourage you that you are already doing everything right! By the way, it is worth regularly sorting out your cosmetics collection, disposing of expired products and lovingly giving away unused items. Then your beauty palace will be up to date again! And the best thing about clearing out: afterwards there is room for new products! 🤗 Write to me in the comments, dear ones: How often do you “sort out” your beauty collection?
